Imaging FAQs: Mammography, Ultrasound & Biopsy
Mammography FAQ
Mammography plays a critical role in the early detection of breast cancer because it can show changes in breast tissue up to two years before a patient or physician can feel them. Our imaging center offers both screening and diagnostic digital mammography with digital and 3D mammography. Visit our mammography page to learn more.
Ultrasound Guided Breast Biopsy FAQ
Bergen Imaging Center offers ultrasound guided biopsies. During this procedure, your radiologist uses an ultrasound to guide the needle to the biopsy site. This is also referred to as an “image guided” biopsy, and offers greater accuracy in pinpointing the abnormal growth compared to other types of biopsies. General Ultrasound FAQ
Bergen Imaging Center offers a number of specialized ultrasounds, including: Abdominal Ultrasounds, Pelvic/Transabdominal and Transvaginal Ultrasounds, First Trimester Obstetrical Ultrasounds, Renal and Bladder Ultrasounds and Thyroid Ultrasounds. Learn more about our ultrasound procedures.
ACR Breast Cancer Screening Guidelines
The American College of Radiology (ACR) has issued new breast cancer screening guidelines on May 3, 2023, urging early and more intensive screening for certain high-risk populations, such as Black women and individuals of Ashkenazi Jewish descent. The updated guidelines aim to address disparities in breast cancer outcomes, with the ACR continuing to endorse annual mammography screenings starting at age 40 for women with average risk.
