TBS iNsight™ by GE Healthcare Now Available At Bergen Imaging Center
TBS iNsight™—an advanced, imaging software for bone densitometers (DXA)—enhances the ability to predict osteoporotic fracture risk. This enhanced assessment is now available for select scans at Bergen Imaging Center.
Bergen Imaging Center has upgraded our DXA bone densitometer for osteoporosis testing with TBS iNsight™, an advanced software application that assesses bone texture to determine future fracture risk using the trabecular bone score (TBS).
Trabecular Bone Score (TBS) Explained
The DXA scan (also called DEXA scan, and bone density testing) is a painless radiological test used to measure bone loss, due to BMD (Bone mineral density). It is frequently used to help with establishing an osteoporosis diagnosis in patients.
While bone densitometry has many benefits, an estimated 50 % of bone fractures are missed when relying only on DEXA technology alone.
Now in addition to evaluating bone loss, the bone ‘texture’ can be assessed with TBS (Trabecular Bone Score).
TBS reveals crucial information for better management of osteoporosis and fracture risk. DEXA bone density scans offer a glimpse into overall bone health, but only measure one aspect of bone strength.
Trabecular Bone Score (TBS) Offers a More Complete Assessment of Patients’ Fracture Risk.
This information allows doctors to explore nonpharmacologic interventions that can improve patients’ overall health, in addition to prescribing personalized preventative treatment.
Bone health treatment plans that incorporate TBS might include bone strengthening exercises and physical therapy, as well as fall prevention techniques to reduce fracture risk.
Benefits of TBS iNsight™ Technology:
- Advanced DXA assesses bone density and bone structure during a single examination. No additional appointments required.
- Drastic improvement of bone fracture risk prediction leads to more effective preventative healthcare.
- No additional radiation exposure. TBS iNsight™ evaluates bone texture expressed as Trabecular Bone Score (TBS) as a complement to bone density.
- Improved diagnostic confidence supports more effective treatment plans.
- Improved personalized patient care may include nonpharmacologic interventions, including exercise, that can improve the patient’s overall health and lower fracture risk.
