For answers to commonly asked questions about getting a mammogram, please review our mammography faq.

  • Screening Mammography: In line with national guidelines, we recommend annual screening mammography for women starting at age 40. These screenings are essential for early detection when breast cancers are most treatable.
  • Diagnostic Mammography: This is used for patients with abnormal clinical findings or as a follow-up to an abnormal screening mammogram, offering a more detailed examination of the area of concern.
  • 3D Mammography / Digital Breast Tomosynthesis: 3D mammography also known as digital breast tomosynthesis, is advanced form of breast imaging that uses a series of two-dimensional images to create a three-dimensional view of the breast. This technology provides a clearer, more accurate view of the breast tissue, particularly beneficial for women with dense breast tissue.
  • Full-Field Digital Mammography: We were the first in Bergen County to offer digital mammography, a crucial tool for early breast cancer detection. Digital mammograms, easily accessible and manipulable on computers, offer enhanced analysis capabilities, use less radiation, and are particularly effective for women under 50, those with dense breast tissue, or those in pre- and perimenopausal stages.

Breast Ultrasound →

A non-invasive procedure using sound waves to create digital images of breast tissue, especially useful for women with dense breasts, breast implants, and as a follow-up to mammography, or for guiding needle placement during biopsies

  • Screening Ultrasound: Recommended for women with dense breast tissue, a high risk of breast cancer, breast implants, family history of breast cancer, or previous biopsies indicating cancer.
  • Diagnostic Ultrasound: Often used as follow-up to an abnormal mammogram, and prescribed by physicians to investigate symptoms like sore, swollen, or lumpy breasts.

Ultrasound Guided Breast Biopsy →

For commonly asked questions about getting an ultrasound guided breast biopsy, please review our biopsy faq.

We provide three types of ultrasound-guided biopsies. These procedures use ultrasound technology to guide the needle for sample collection, vital for the early detection of breast cancer and subsequent analysis.

  • Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA)
  • Cyst Aspiration
  • Core Needle Biopsy
